Kampot Landfill to Improve Provincial Conditions

KAMPOT: The Kampot landfill was officially inaugurated by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on the morning of May 30, 2023. The landfill was built with a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) of more than $ 3 million USD.

The Kampot landfill represents the second phase of the bank’s Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project and covers an area of more than ten hectares in Thmey Village. The landfill has two three-meter-deep pits that can hold more than 400,000 cubic meters of garbage and can be used for 20 years.

With a $3 million price tag, the Ministry of Public Works started construction on the landfill on May 20, 2021 and completed it on September 30, 2022.

Kampot Provincial Governor Mao Thonin credited the success of the project to the leadership of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and its positive working relationship with the ADB. He highlighted the importance of the landfill to creating a clean and attractive environment for national and international tourists who visit the coastal province.

Minister of Public Works and Transport, Sun Chanthol, added that the establishment of a landfill in Kampot province greatly contributes to improving the well-being of local population as well.
